The Mets are close to signing reliever Chad Cordero to a minor-league deal.

Cordero became a free agent when the Mariners wanted to send him to Triple-A Tacoma and he declined the option.

He had a combined 113 saves from 2005 to 2007 with the Nationals, but had a 6.52 ERA in 9 2/3 innings with Seattle.
