Ryne Sandberg says he's ready if the Cubs call on him to replace manager Lou Piniella next season. Piniella announced on Tuesday that he will retire at the end of the 2010 season. "I am ready," Sandberg said Wednesday on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "I sure am." Sandberg made it into the Hall of Fame as a second baseman with the Cubs. He currently has Triple-A Iowa in first place. "[After] four years of managing at the minor league level, I'm ready for a major league job, and I'm ready to win," Sandberg said. "The reason I went this route was to manage, not to coach."
