Home plate umpire Wally Bell warned both dugouts after three batters were hit by pitches within the seventh and eighth innings of New York?s 5-4 win over the Red Sox at Legends Field last night, but Sox manager Terry Francona wasn?t pleased with the way the Yankees went about gaining retaliation. The incidents began in the seventh with the score tied, 3-3. Former Red Sox reliever Mike Myers came in too close on J.T. Snow and struck him on his left triceps. Neither side seemed to take issue with it until Sox right-hander David Riske opened the bottom of the seventh by hitting Derek Jeter in the back after losing the grip on a split-fingered fastball in mid-delivery. Jeter expressed his displeasure with a glare. Two batters later, Luis Garcia belted a two-run home run to give the Yankees a 5-3 lead. Even though it appeared fairly obvious that Jeter was hit by an out-of-control pitch, Tanyon Sturtze responded for the Yankees in the top of the eighth by drilling Mike Lowell in the hip, which earned the warnings. ?I wasn?t too pleased with it,? Francona said of the Sturtze pitch. ?Derek got hit with a split. We knew it, they knew it. He got hit with a split-finger and Lowell gets one in the ribs. I wasn?t too pleased with it.?
