Charlie Manuel was asked on Monday how he chose Ryan Howard as the National League designated hitter and if it was because he plays on the Phillies.

"Not only he's my guy, but he's got 119 at-bats and left-handed pitchers and six homers and 20 RBIs. He can hit them. He's hit the most home runs in the National League in the in the last three or four years, hitting .294. He is very capable of hitting fourth in the All-Star lineup.
