Mets right-hander Jenrry Mejia has been diagnosed with a posterior cuff strain in his right shoulder.

He removed himself from Sunday's game at Double-A Binghamton after throwing 43 pitches.

New York sent him down to Binghamton on June 20 in hopes of stretching his arm out to become a starter.

Mejia is expected resume throwing when "tolerated."
