Boof Bonser's brief time with the Red Sox came to a likely conclusion on Friday, when the club designated him for assignment to make room on the roster for lefty starter Felix Doubront, who made his Major League debut for the opener of a three-game series against the Dodgers.

When Boston signed Bonser, the hope was that he could provide depth in both the rotation and the bullpen. After having right shoulder surgery while with the Twins last February, the Sox had a conservative program set up for Bonser, and he opened the 2010 season on the disabled list.
