Phillies pitcher Jaime Moyer, 47, became the oldest pitcher to beat the Yankees on Wednesday night. Philadelphia defeated New York 6-3 at Yankee Stadium. "I don't think that I'm old. So I don't believe it," Moyer said. "Regardless of what people think or say, I still feel like I can go out and compete, and that's my ultimate job." Phil Niekro had been the oldest pitcher to top the Yankees, doing so at 47 years, 122 days in 1986. Moyer is 47 years, 210 days old. "He's been doing it for a long time, a really long time," Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter said. "He never throws the ball over the plate. That goes to show you don't have to throw hard. He knows what he's doing. That's why he's been around so long." |
