Johnny Damon didn't start for the second straight World Baseball Classic game last night, and he might not start Thursday's second-round finale for Team USA, either.

Damon has not been hitting well in the WBC, but that isn't his only problem. After skipping outdoor pregame batting practice at Angel Stadium last night, he told a Team USA press representative that his left shoulder is "barking."

Damon, who declined to meet personally with reporters, described the condition as "spring training shoulder" and took batting practice indoors, according to spokesman Rob Butcher. Yet the announcement set off alarms because of Damon's current employer, and because Damon's shoulder bothered him for the latter half of the 2005 season.
