Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira met with hitting coach Kevin Long after he struck out five times in a loss to the Blue Jays on Saturday. "I sat down with him for 20 minutes," Long said. "I said, 'You OK, bud?' He said, 'Yeah, I'm OK.' I've done this before. I did it my rookie year.' Just to release a little bit and get some of that out, because you know what, that's a tough day." Teixeira entered Sunday hitting .215 with eight homers and 34 RBIs. "He's had a tough year to this point, no doubt about it, but we still have a long way to go," Long said. "We're two games out [of first place]. He's our No. 3 hitter. We won a World Series with him in the 3-hole. Fans want to destroy him. You guys want to destroy him. That's your business. I'm not with that. My job is to lift this guy up and build him up and not destroy him." |
