Phillies closer Brad Lidge pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning on Friday against the Padres, something manager Charlie Manuel is encouraged by.

The outing was only his second since returning from his second stint on the disabled list this year.

"He did a good job," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said.

"He had good stuff. He had good command. He had good life on his fastball. He threw some quality strikes."

Lidge has a 1.69 ERA in 5 1/3 innings over six outings this season.
