Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran served as a designated hitter in an extended spring training game on Friday.

Beltran had six at-bats, getting two singles in Port St. Lucie.

A team official said it was a step in his rehabilitation and that Beltran did "nothing crazy" as far as baserunning.

Beltran, 33, underwent Jan. 13 arthroscopic surgery on his arthritic right knee.
