Cox, the winningest manager in Braves franchise history, is entering his 25th season as a big-league skipper and his 21st year at the Braves? helm (1978-81, 1990-present). He enters the 2006 campaign with 2,092 career wins, placing him seventh on the all-time victory list and second among active managers. Cox has recorded 1,737 wins with the Braves and another 355 in four seasons (1982-85) with the Toronto Blue Jays. He and Hall of Fame manager Joe McCarthy are the only two managers in history to post six 100-win campaigns. ?We are extremely pleased to extend Bobby?s contract through 2007,? Braves Executive Vice President and General Manager John Schuerholz said. ?We feel that Bobby is the best manager in the game and his leadership has helped the Braves to set a very high standard of excellence ? not just in Major League Baseball, but in all of professional sports.? |
