The Congressional committee that Sammy Sosa testified before in March 2005, when he said he never used performance-enhancing drugs, has decided not to ask the Department of Justice to investigate him on perjury charges.

The announcement from the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform comes nearly a year after its head, Edolphus Towns, Democrat of New York, said investigators for the committee would begin a review of Sosa?s testimony after it was disclosed he was among the players who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003.

?After a review of the matter, we will not be taking any action,? said Jenny Thalheimer Rosenberg, a spokeswoman for the committee.

It was not clear whether the Department of Justice could have charged Sosa with perjury charges because there is a five-year statue of limitations on such charges.
