The Cubs have denied a report that they signed reliever Bob Howry after he cleared waivers on Wednesday, but they are interested in the right-hander.

Howry, who pitched for the Cubs before, signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Diamondbacks, but was waived after allowing 17 runs in less than 15 innings.

He posted a 3.39 ERA for San Francisco last season in 63 appearances.
