The Mets discussed the future of high-paid outfielder Gary Matthews Jr. during their organizational meetings earlier this week in Atlanta.

Matthews is 9-for-52 this season and has remained on the roster largely because he can play center field and Carlos Beltran is still out.

New York isn't likely to cut ties with him now, but his status could change if he continues to struggle or when Beltran returns.
