The Mets are sending struggling pitcher Oliver Perez to the bullpen.

New York manager Jerry Manuel hasn't yet named a replacement starter for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, but he did mention left-hander Hisanori Takahashi by name.

"I don't like going to the bullpen, but I think that's the best for the team," Perez said Saturday. "I think Takahashi is pitching better than me. And right now I have trouble."

Perez is 0-3 with a 5.94 ERA in seven starts.

The Mets were victorious in only one of his appearances.
