The Mets designated outfielder Frank Catalanotto for assignment on Monday, a move that could signal the end of his career.

He is a veteran of 14 seasons in the major leagues.

"I don't necessarily know that it came as a surprise - I wasn't getting a chance to play much. I knew eventually it may happen, especially if I wasn't helping the team out and producing," said Catalanotto.

"I don't know what's going to happen. Chances are this is the end of my career."
