Yankees manager Joe Girardi has come to the defense of starting pitcher Javier Vazquez.

Curt Schilling said earlier this week that he didn't think Vazquez was cut out for the American League or New York.

"The leagues are obviously different, with the DH, but Javy has had winning seasons in the AL in the past," said Girardi. "We still feel he?s going to pitch at a high level for us."

Vazquez is 1-3 with a 9.00 ERA and will start on Saturday against the White Sox.
