Phillies outfielder Jayson Werth isn't sure what kind of effect Ryan Howard's $125 million extension will have on his future with the team.

"This is all fresh," Werth said. "I haven't really given it too much thought."

Werth can become a free agent after the season. Philadelphia hasn't publicly ruled out re-signing him, but with a payroll of $130 million already committed for the 2010 season, it might be tough.

"I think it's great," Werth said of Howard's deal.

"To give that type of contract to Ryan, I think he deserves it. Hopefully, it's a step in the right direction to keeping us together as long as possible. We started something together here. Hopefully, we can finish it."
