Prince Fielder went without a home run again Wednesday night, stretching his power drought to 53 at-bats to open the season. That number of at-bats matched the longest season-opening homer-less stretch of Fielder's major-league career.

In 2008, Fielder didn't go deep until his 54th at-bat, socking a game-winning two-run blast in the 10th inning in St. Louis. He has 18 career homers in April, his second-lowest total (17 in July).

"We all know that he gets frustrated and then he comes out of it and he ends up hitting his 35 to 40 home runs," said hitting coach Dale Sveum.

"He'll be all right. I'm not concerned about Prince. It only takes one at-bat to find it and it's all there again."

Manager Ken Macha said he talked with Sveum to see "how Prince is handling it."

"Dale said he has had slower starts than this," said Macha. "I'm relying on Dale and his view of what's going on with him. I just think he's trying to hit his first homer. He's trying too hard.

"He hit a ball in Washington to the opposite field; the wind was pretty stiff and knocked it down."
