Gary Sheffield may be close to signing on with a major-league team, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

"Gary Sheffield says he has "something on the table" with a team and will discuss the opportunity when he returns from his vacation," Cafardo wrote on his Twitter page.
