Carlos Gomez was benched for the two games before Wednesday after going 1 for his last 16 entering the second game against the Cubs.

But he never pouted about it and vows to be a team player if it happens again.

"He said, 'You know what, I just want to help the team. You're the manager and if the other guys are swinging well, that's fine. If you need me to pinch run or anything, I'm here,' " manager Ken Macha said. "For two days in a row not in the starting lineup, he was tremendous about it."

Gomez was back in the lineup Wednesday, but he was dropped five spots in the batting order from second to seventh.
