Patrick Courtney will become Major League Baseball's chief spokesman after the retirement of Rich Levin at the end of the year.

Courtney was promoted Tuesday to senior vice president of public relations.

Levin, baseball's chief spokesman since 1985, said last week he will retire at the end of 2010.
