The Red Sox and pitcher Josh Beckett are "making progress" on a contract extension, according to a team source.

It was reported earlier this week that Boston had offered Beckett a four-year deal worth $65 million to $70 million.

A source close to the negotiations said last weekend that the Red Sox would not give Beckett a five-year pact.
