The Mariners are shutting down pitcher Cliff Lee for at least five days as he deals with a strained abdomen.

It's likely that Lee will start the 2010 season on the disabled list.

Seattle manager Don Wakamatsu said Friday that the team's medical staff decided the 31-year-old left-hander will do no more throwing until at least Wednesday.
