Red Sox starter Josh Beckett was scratched from a scheduled start on Sunday because of an undisclosed illness.

The plan is for Beckett to stay on his regular day, which means a start next Friday against the Pirates.

"He wasn't feeling good at all," manager Terry Francona said. "The more we talked about it this morning at BP, we could tell he was battling it. I don't know if we'd have gotten a lot of good to come out of it.

"The biggest thing we need to do is get him feeling better. We've had a lot of guys that have been going through that the last week to 10 days."
