Lance Berkman, 34, is entering the final year of a six-year, $85 million contract extension signed in 2005. He will make $14.5 million this year, and the Astros hold a $15 million option for next year. There is a $2 million buyout. Coming off a season in which he posted his lowest full-season batting average in the Major Leagues (.274) and well-below career averages in home runs (25) and RBIs (80), Berkman knows another subpar season could force the Astros to take a long look at passing on his hefty option for 2011. "They have an option on me for the next year, so if I play well, I guess they'll pick it up; and if not, then I'll be looking for work elsewhere," Berkman said. "I may have to, whether you want to or not. It may come down to a situation where if things don't go well this year and they don't pick up my option, I probably won't be back."
