Free agent pitcher Jeff Weaver agreed to a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Newsday has learned. The ex-Yankee is believed to have signed a deal for $8.4 million guaranteed, plus $600,000 in incentives.

Weaver, 29, posted a 14-11 record and 4.22 ERA with the Los Angeles Dodgers last season in 224 innings. The California native spent part of the 2002 season and all of 2003 in New York, where he struggled before being traded to the Dodgers for Kevin Brown.

Weaver was to take scheduled to take a physical before the Angels announce his signing.
