The Tigers and Justin Verlander have discussed a five-year, $75 million contract extension, but the pitcher is looking for a sixth year, according to Yahoo! Sports.
Verlander will turn 27 at the beginning of spring training and finished third in the American League Cy Young voting last season.
The right-hander would prefer the security of a sixth season, which would take the value of the deal in to the $93 million to $95 million range.
