Yankees general manager Brian Cashman says that the team cannot afford free-agent outfielder Johnny Damon.

"I'm not having any discussions on him," Cashman told MLB.com. "His abilities exceed the money that I have."

New York is still looking for a right-handed bat in the outfield.

Damon, who earned $13 million last season, isn't willing to take a huge pay cut after one of his best offensive seasons.

"He's a valuable player that a lot of teams are talking to, I'm sure," Cashman added. "His abilities exceed my physical ability to keep my finances afloat."
