Yankees general manager Brian Cashman says that the team has not given free-agent outfielder Johnny Damon a deadline to decide on a return to New York.

The Yankees only have about $2 million remaining in their budget, which makes Damon likely to turn down any offer and look for employment elsewhere.

"There is no deadline," Cashman said. "We'll spend when we feel comfortable."

In a text message to The New York Post, Damon said he was vacationing and not aware of a deadline.

More likely, agent Scott Boras gave the Yankees a deadline of this weekend to make their final offer.

Damon originally sought a two-year deal worth $20 million.
