The White Sox and Twins appear to be battling for the services of free-agent slugger Jim Thome.

A source close to the situation told the Chicago Sun-Times that the White Sox are rethinking the idea of adding or continuing without Thome.

"It's 50-50 now, which couldn't be said [Thursday]. Jim is just waiting to hear," a source told the Sun-Times.

White Sox manager Carlos Guillen all but confirmed the possibility of Thome's return after saying Thursday the Sox were going in "a different direction, but the right direction" after trading Thome.
