Catcher Todd Greene agreed to a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday and will be invited to spring training. The 34-year-old will compete with Yamid Haad and Justin Knoedler for the job to back up Mike Matheny. Greene had signed a minor league deal with San Diego in January, but was granted his release after the Padres signed Mike Piazza. Greene would get a $700,000 contract if he makes San Francisco's 40-man roster and can ask for his release if he does not make the team by March 30. Greene has a .248 career average with 69 homers and 200 RBIs in 10 seasons in the majors. He has hit 37 homers in 638 at-bats over the past four seasons. Greene has played for the Angels, Toronto, the New York Yankees, Texas and Colorado in his career. |
