Blue Jays president Paul Beeston never even considered the possibility that Roberto Alomar wouldn't make the Hall of Fame on his first attempt.

"I was surprised and disappointed," Beeston said in a phone interview. "I guess you would have to say it's a fair vote, but it's incomprehensible (that Alomar didn't qualify)."

In results announced Wednesday afternoon by the Baseball Writers' Association of America, Alomar received 397 Hall of Fame votes from among 539 eligible BBWAA voters.
