Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis doesn't believe that the team has taken a step back offensively.

Boston lost Jason Bay to free agency and they could still trade Mike Lowell. They added Mike Cameron.

"The luxury you have with our team is if you're hitting in the (No.) 7 hole, like Mike Lowell was, he was at the top of the RBIs most of the year until a little bit of injuries," Youkilis said. "In this lineup, it doesn't matter where you hit. Mike Cameron down the bottom, he can drive in as many runs as the guys hitting (No.) 4. It's a matter of guys adapting to it, but I think there's still a lot of thunder there.

"You don't know. Guys could have unbelievable offensive seasons. Guys could have bad seasons. You never know what's going to happen in baseball. That's what makes it a great sport. If you put it all in numbers, like Bill James, the season's already figured out - we joke about that with him all the time. But you never know what's going to happen. A guy could hit 15 homers and then the next year hit 25.

"That's what you hope for. This team has some guys that can improve on their numbers from last year. There's a few guys we added that will hopefully improve on their numbers too. You hope for the best, hope guys can have good years, put us in the playoffs and try to win the World Series."
