The Mets and pitcher Kelvim Escobar have agreed to terms on a one-year deal.

The agreement occurred late Thursday night.

"With Escobar, we are looking at him as a reliever," Mets general manager Omar Minaya told the New York Daily News.

"It's a low risk, but could have a high reward," one American League scout said. "It hangs on if he's healthy."
