The Mets appear to be closing in on free-agent pitcher Kelvim Escobar.

A report out of Venezuela states that New York is close to an agreement with Escobar, who was injured for a majority of the 2009 season.

Escobar posted an 18-7 record and a 3.40 ERA in 30 starts in 2007.
