The Nationals are near a contract agreement with reliever Eddie Guardado, according to FOX Sports.

The deal is believed to be for one season.

Guardado went 1-2 with a 4.46 ERA in 48 relief outings for the Rangers in 2009.

His signing wouldn't take Washington out of the running for free-agent reliever Matt Capps.
