The Mariners are moving towards a contract extension with center fielder Franklin Gutierrez.

Sources told FOX Sports that the two sides are "making progress" on a long-term deal.

Gutierrez is eligible for salary arbitration for the first time.

He hit .283 with 18 home runs and 70 RBI in 2009.
