A thumb injury that Mike Lowell sustained at the end of last season may keep the Red Sox from sending him to the Rangers.

The Boston Globe is reporting that Texas has signed off on Lowell's troublesome hip but are still monitoring the thumb issue.

The Rangers and Red Sox reached a preliminary agreement Wednesday on a deal for Lowell that would send minor league catcher Max Ramirez to Boston.
