Cardinals manager Tony La Russa is confident that Mark McGwire will be successful as the team's hitting coach.

"I know the seriousness of my conversations with Mark, and his seriousness," La Russa said. "I think it's going to work. I think he has demonstrated to some of us he has a lot offer as a hitting coach."

La Russa says McGwire is already talking to Cardinals hitters and watching tape.

McGwire still hasn't been introduced to the St. Louis media.
