One faction of the Yankees front office has advocated trying to trade for Roy Halladay without extending his contract.

The thinking is that the Yankees would get Halladay for 2010 at an affordable $16 million, then offer him arbitration after the season to secure two draft picks as a way to recoup some of the prospects given up in the trade.

For the most part, the Yankees remain bystanders amongst more aggressive suitors for Halladay.
