The Red Sox are seriously considering signing free-agent pitcher Rich Harden, according to a source.

Harden has a history of injury, but Boston made commitments to similar pitchers in John Smoltz and Brad Penny last offseason.

Boston hasn't made Harden an offer, but Chicago didn't offer the right-hander arbitration, which means teams won't have to forfeit a draft pick to sign him.
