The Red Sox could step up their interest in free-agent shortstop Marco Scutaro prior to December's winter meetings.

Scutaro is a Type A free agent, which means Boston would have to surrender a draft pick if they were to sign him.

Alex Gonzalez, one of the Red Sox options at shortstop, was taken off the market by the Blue Jays earlier this week.
