The Nationals have declined the $10 million option on the contract of outfielder Austin Kearns.
They will instead pay him a $1 million buyout, allowing him to hit the free agent market.
Kearns hit only .195 with three homers and 17 RBIs in 174 at-bats this season as he was bothered by a thumb injury.
