Angels shortstop Erick Aybar says fans at Yankee Stadium had nothing to do with the pop up that he and teammate Chone Figgins allowed to drop in Game 1. With two outs in the bottom of the first inning and the Yankees already leading 1-0, Hideki Matsui hit what looked like an easy pop up between third and short. Aybar and Figgins looked at one another, with neither calling the ball, and it dropped in. Johnny Damon scored on the play, giving New York a 2-0 edge. "The fans didn't have anything to do with that," Aybar said. "None of us called for it." Angels manager Mike Scioscia said afterward that plays like those are a part of the game. "These guys are not going to be robots out there," Scioscia said. "It's a mistake. It was ugly. But it happens." |
