Joe Mauer will become a free agent following the 2010 season unless the Twins can reach an agreement on an extension this winter.

Mauer said he plans to take a few weeks to evaluate the season before meeting with his agent Ron Shapiro, and showed no signs of being impatient about his contract.

"I'm not a guy who will say that I need something done," said Mauer, who made $10.5 million this season and will earn $12.5 million next season. "I think things will work themselves out."

RealGM Note: Mauer was ranked 8th in season FIC, 'deserving' a salary of better than $18.87 million, giving him a Reina Value of +80%. The FIC doesn't take into account the full value of his defense behind the plate, combined with putting up his type of offensive numbers from that position.
