After the Phillies took a 2-1 series lead over the Rockies on Sunday night, umpires admitted a huge mistake.

Home plate umpire Jerry Meals ruled that a ball Philadelphia's Chase Utley hit on a check swing was fair, even though it was foul.

The ball dribbled up the first base line and Colorado's Huston Street, even though he thought the ball was foul, fielded and threw the ball to first base.

First base umpire Ron Kulpa ruled Utley safe at first in a close play.

"I saw it hit him. I hesitated," Street told the Associated Press. "But Chase took off and then I thought in my mind it's a free out. It turned out to be a tougher play ... but I still made the play."

Jimmy Rollins advanced to third on the play and then gave the Phillies a 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Howard to deep center.

Street, who is still against instant replay, appreciated the fact that the umpires owned up to their mistake.

"You appreciate that as players," he said. "You appreciate the fact that they're willing to admit to that. You recognize it's a tough job."
