Doctor: A-Rod Won't Need Offseason Surgery

Dr. Marc Philippon doesn't think Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez will need hip surgery in the offseason.

Philippon operated on Rodriguez's right hip in the spring.

"It's difficult to make a formal and definite statement right now, but the way things are going - clinically anyway, and the way I saw him in batting practice - there's no need for intervention at this time," Philippon told the New York Daily News. "His power is excellent, the rotation in his hip is excellent ... I'll need a few more tests, but so far I don't think he'll need surgery."

Rodriguez has returned to 95% full strength, Philippon added. Follow-up surgery in the offseason had been considered a foregone conclusion.
