Cardinals manager Tony La Russa believes that there is a discrepancy between the visitor's bullpen mound and the main mound at Coors Field. La Russa asked for an umpires' review of the mounds following Friday's loss and had an animated exchange with Colorado's grounds crew Saturday. St. Louis pitcher Chris Carpenter complained to La Russa and pitching coach Dave Duncan after the first inning Friday, claiming that the main mound was steeper than the one on which he had warmed. "When a pitcher like him says something about it, what are you supposed to do, forget about it?" Duncan told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The crew measured the mounds on Friday and found no difference in height.
